The Bridge Beginnings

Founded by Kory Curcuru in 2012, Bridge Cape Ann is a local media and community initiative based in Gloucester on the Cape Ann peninsula of northeastern Massachusetts. It is best known for producing promotional videos, covering community happenings, hosting events and contests, and spotlighting the people, places & culture across Cape Ann (Gloucester, Rockport, Essex, Manchester-by-the-Sea).

Kory’s Story

I returned to my hometown of Gloucester, Mass. in 2011 after a handful of years as a producer in Hollywood. Before that, I was everything from a radio deejay to a standup comic to a writer living out of a travel bag.

Two others and I launched OvaTheBridge.com, the first hyperlocal-focused social media website in the world (think Facebook groups before Facebook groups). This was the early days of social media - years before live streaming. Teaching small business owners how to upload their own posts to our very beta website was like teaching them a new religion. To make things easier, I visited them & recorded videos on their behalf, then appeared on the website throughout the day like a hometown anchorman to call attention to the latest content from Mom & Pop shops and restaurants. Without realizing it, I became The Bridge, the guy who connected locals to each other and the online world.

OvaTheBridge, by the way, is a nod to a overriding belief here; the majority of Gloucester is connected to mainland Massachusetts by three bridges, most notably a highway bridge on Route 128 that spans the Annisquam River. When people leave the city - whether it’s for an errand or a long period of time - we say in our Glosta accent, that we’re going “Ova the bridge”.

Anyhow, my associates soon moved on, so I built and curated a big local following on social platforms, rebranded as Bridge Cape Ann. The popularity of the page led to thousands of client videos and dozens of community events, as well as a second full-time job as a host and history documentarian at the regional cable station, 1623 Studios.

After “bridging” Cape Ann all these years, I wanted to find a new way to share my community and friends with you. So I built a home studio and brought in good people to help me broadcast a bunch of shows.

Let’s have some fun.
